ChatGPT's Crazy Growth Spurt!

So ChatGPT is absolutely crushing it lately - and I'm not just talking modest growth here. According to a fresh report from a16z (you know, the Andreessen Horowitz folks), ChatGPT's user numbers are skyrocketing!

Get this: It took ChatGPT nine whole months to go from 100 million weekly users to 200 million. But then? They DOUBLED AGAIN to 400 million in less than six months!

Why the sudden explosion? Well, it seems we've moved past the "ooh, shiny new toy" phase. Remember when we were all just making ChatGPT write silly poems and tell dad jokes? Now people are actually figuring out how to use this thing in their everyday lives.

Why it matters

The big jumps came after some cool new features dropped. First, that GPT-4o update with the whole seeing-images thing gave them a huge boost last spring. Then their fancy voice mode got everyone talking (literally!) last summer. Their newest o1 models kept the momentum going into fall.

Mobile users are particularly hooked - growing 5-15% EVERY MONTH for the past year! Now 175 million people are chatting with AI on their phones. Wild!

Oh, and keep an eye on DeepSeek - this newcomer rocketed to #2 globally in just 10 days and already has 15% of ChatGPT's mobile users. The competition is heating up!

But for now, ChatGPT remains the undisputed champ - still #1 in both web visits and mobile users.
